Platonic - Apple+

I started this with the equivalent incredulity of having both hands in front of my eyes, just to save myself from what might have been a teeth-grinding pain in the rear. Pfff. Really? That was about the size of it. This is never going to work.

And if we're honest, it was a bit of a slog to begin with. This ten episode first season is sometimes cringy and unrealistic, almost completely unrelatable and often nowhere near as funny as it needs to be to retain its audience.

Nonetheless, it does have its moments and while not overflowing with chemistry between the two leads, both Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne do both have their moments, just not usually together. Most of the support is wooden and merely nailed on. Again, not really their fault. I just can't help this nagging feeling of artificiality. Over-produced? Well, maybe, but I think the script overall is weak and mostly lacklustre, beneath both of the main stars here.

I watch a huge amount of streaming seasons each year and I rarely fail to finish any of them. Here with just the last episode of Season One about to drop, there over-riding message would appear to be "well, we tried." Whilst not exactly rolling my eyes at having to sit through another episode, I wasn't on the edge of my seat in anticipation at any stage either. All a bit meh, really, which is a crying shame, as I was hoping for better.
