The Beekeeper (2024)

I'm sure that if the Universe is infinite and there are an infinite number of them, somewhere Jason Statham is actually a beekeeper, who rents a building from a lovely, dear, sweet old lady from The Cosby Show, who gets scammed online for all of her money.

She also happens to have a daughter that just so happens to turn up at just the wrong time for the old biddy in question, post suicide, and also handily works for the FBI. Handy for the plot, that is.

Suffice to say, this is alot to swallow and would require that same number of infinite opportunities to become a reality. It's fun at times and even causes the occasional chuckle, whether it means to or not. The characterisation is one-dimensional and the 'know your enemy' tale is as old as the hills.

Statham is as on form as he ever was with so much experience in this department as to bore you to tears just to remind you of it. For all of the threat he faces or the peril he is under, he may as well be bulletproof, such is the lack of tension you need to feel when you're rooting for the good guy.

I love seeing Jeremy Irons and Minnie Driver in anything and they are the two real pearls amongst all of this swine and makes it worth watching just for them if nothing else. Like a certain much more stylish Mr Wick, this is predictable fare with entertaining, if unimaginative, bells and whistles. Sit back with your popcorn, this is what it was made for.
